Final Week: Post 2

How do you feel about returning back to classes next week? Do you anticipate a different experience of school now that you have been immersed in a work place? What are you looking forward to about coming back? What are you going to miss about internship?

I CANNOT WAIT! to go back to school. I miss it. A lot. Especially being with my friends and people. I don't think I'll have a different experience of school now that I've been immersed in a work place. I'm looking forward to being able to dress a bit more like I want to. I intern at a Art School with wooden floors (heels were a no-no as they made a lot of noise), so I didn't think it was appropriate to wear what I sometimes wear to school. I think I'll miss the little coffee/tea cart, Apollo, and of course my mentor! :)

Final Week: post 1

Describe your reflections on your internship project—what went well, what would you do differently, and what stands out to you?

What went for my project was the video editing. With the amount of time given, I managed to pull together at least one video which I believe turned out pretty good. If I could do anything differently I would've done less video taping. I had so much footage that it took about 4 days to capture them (2 hours a day). It was also difficult to locate specific footage I wanted to use.

Week 3: Post 2

What are social interactions like in your workplace? Do people spend a lot of time socializing? Are people isolated, doing their own things? Lots of collaboration on work projects? Not much collaboration? How does the social dynamic impact or reflect the organization's work?

So far, I don't feel there's a lot of social interaction. Only my mentor Olya, and her husband Bill work there. There is also Yedia, yet I've only seen once since internship started. All of last week, I've been video taping and watching the class, so I didn't really converse with anyone. This week it's been a little more different as I'm not video taping anything. I think there will be more interaction in the future as I will be helping Olya with a commissioned art piece. :)

Week 3: post 1

You are half-way through your project. How is it going? What challenges have you faced? What have you learned? What are you doing to ensure a successful completion of your internship project.

I haven't really felt that I've truly even started my project. I am making 2 videos for LAC. One short and promotional, the other more in depth about a workshop they had. I video taped each day all last week, and have been capturing the footage (until today). With only about 5 days left, I'm very anxious to begin actually editing. To insure a successful completion for at least one of the videos, I plan on working on the promotional video first.

Week 2: Post 2

Who is your mentor? Describe his or her life, education, career path and more.

My mentor is Olya Losina. She is the owner and teacher at LAC. She is Russian and was born and raised in Moscow. Both of her parents are artists, and she was naturally an artist from birth. She went to different art schools in Russia, and when she was younger she never thought about becoming an art teacher. She found that she really liked teaching others and explaining things. That combined with her artistic nature led to her being an art teacher.

Week 2: Post 1

1. Describe a technical/skill challenge you faced in that affects your ability to complete your project.

On monday, the 10th, I began video taping the art class for my project. 5 minutes later, the battery died. I replaced it with another battery that was supposedly charged, but it died within minutes. After returning to school to get a charger for the batteries, later in the day I discovered that the charger didn't work after the batteries failed to charge. This really made the video taping difficult. I used about 3 different cameras in order to film.

Day 3

I'll be working on two major projects at LAC. The first is a testimonial video for their website. I'll be using equipment and editing footage from school and video taping next week during the workshops.

The second project is being an assistant artist and helping LAC create art pieces which were commissioned for a high end restaurant in Del Mar. I hope that both projects will turn out to be better then expected :)

Day 1

Today was my first day interning at Losina Art Center. After arriving early to locked doors, I slowly wandered around. I passed a Martial arts school, Jiu Jitsu school, art and framing company, SOMA, etc. before returning to the front of LAC. Few minutes later, Bill arrived and showed me inside. I learned a lot more about what I may be doing. I may be going with Bill and Olya to a High End Restaurant in Del Mar for a commission and helping with it, so I'm super excited about that. I'm also excited about the art classes I'll be taking in order better advertise LAC. I don't really feel nervous about anything other than simply settling in and getting a better feel of things.
